COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT COMMITTEE
A national debate has renewed over the effectiveness of CRA. Legislation has been offered to significantly change the law, broaden its scope to wider geographies, applying it to more financial service providers, and making additional changes. The bank regulatory agencies are considering changes that would make major alterations to the law in the future. The new data collection called for under the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 will become part of any reforms adopted. With the help of the committee, CBA will assume a leadership role for the industry and try to guide the changes to CRA in a positive direction. Drawing on the experience of the committee, CBA is well positioned to be the voice of reason as the CRA's future is determined. With guidance from the committee, CBA will advocate for the best solution for retail banks and the communities they serve. Each year, lenders flock to CBA's Annual Conference, CBA LIVE, because it is the leading forum to examine and discuss these complex compliance issues and the changing nature of regulatory exams and ratings.
