Small Business Banking

Overview

As the banking industry saw a major growth opportunity in the small business market, CBA's Small Business Banking Committee was created by retail banking leaders seeking new approaches to serve this dynamic marketplace.

Traditionally serviced by the commercial lending area, bankers became aware that the market could be better supported from the retail perspective. CBA’s Education Council encouraged CBA to pursue the issue and examine ways to support the banking industry’s efforts to develop a retail strategy for small businesses.

The Business Banking Committee developed a survey to ascertain how banks were organized to serve this market. As a result, CBA and the Committee developed a strategy to address the entire banking relationship, from product development and delivery to marketing and selling. The next step was to develop a forum for bankers to learn what was happening in their field and to share their experiences as they developed organizational structures to serve the market.

Among the recent initiatives are a series of executive roundtables that bring together small business leaders, members of their team to foster interaction and a unique opportunity to discuss current business issues.
