Steven I. Zeisel is Vice President and Senior Counsel for the Consumer Bankers Association, where he has been employed since 1991. His practice covers a wide range of legal and regulatory issues associated with areas of consumer financial services. Most recently, he has been actively involved in Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and fair lending issues. He is an author and frequent speaker on issues related to consumer credit regulation, Truth in Lending, CRA and Fair Lending. From 1980-1985, Steve was Senior Attorney with the Division of Consumer and Community Affairs of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC, where he focused on consumer credit and deposit regulation and worked on the simplification of Truth in Lending's Regulation Z. From 1985-1991, Steve was employed as in-house counsel for Equitable Bank, in Baltimore, Maryland, and later Maryland National Bank, where his responsibility encompassed all retail banking activity, consumer finance and regulatory compliance. Steve is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Consumer Financial Services. As the former Co-Chair of the Predatory Lending Task Force, he was responsible for the creation and maintenance of the financial literacy web site, “Safeborrowing.com.” He is also the former Chair of both the Access to Services and the Privacy Subcommittees. Steve is a founding member of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers. Steve received his B.S. from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota. He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is a member of the Maryland Bar. |
