Richard Hunt
President & CEO, Consumer Bankers Association

Richard Hunt is President and CEO of the Consumer Bankers Association (CBA), the national trade association for retail banking. CBA’s members include the nation’s largest bank holding companies as well as regional and super community banks.

Since his appointment in 2009, Hunt has led the association in increasing advocacy and educational efforts pertaining to retail banking issues. Hunt introduced the association’s newly launched annual event “CBA LIVE”, which has become the premiere retail banking industry summit. He has testified at Congressional hearings on overdraft protection legislation and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB). Hunt has also worked with federal banking regulatory agencies to advocate on behalf of CBA’s members and, under his leadership, CBA is well-positioned to assist its members in navigating the new regulatory environment.

Hunt has been recognized as the recipient of several industry accolades, including being named among the top association executives by CEO Update, and recognition as one of the Top Lobbyists by The Hill newspaper. He was most recently awarded the “Spirit of Franchising Award” by the International Franchise Association (IFA) for his efforts to reduce obstacles franchises face in securing loans. Hunt is also a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Association Committee of 100. His extensive experience and keen knowledge of financial services issues allow him to provide both political insight and strategic advice to senior financial executives. He is frequently quoted in financial services publications such as American Banker as well as national outlets including The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Hunt is a regular guest on major television and radio news programs to discuss issues related to retail banking.

His previous positions include serving as senior vice president of federal policy for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA). He also served as senior managing director of the Securities Industry Association, which merged with the Bond Market Association in 2006 to form SIFMA. In these roles Hunt led major initiatives on investment tax and retirement legislation, and various other financial services issues. Hunt began his career in the U.S. House of Representatives where he spent 12 years serving as chief of staff and district manager for Congressman Jim McCrery (R-La). Originally from Louisiana, Hunt is a 1989 graduate of the University of Louisiana where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business marketing.
